This week marks the beginning of the Click It or Ticket: Day or Night Seat Belt Safety Campaign. This annual National Highway Traffic and Safety Association (NHTSA) campaign comes just in time for Memorial Day to remind drivers and passengers about seat belt safety. In 2020, nearly 11,000 lives were lost due to being unbuckled. In addition, more than half of young adults aged 18 to 34 killed in accidents were not wearing seat belts. A more prominent police presence can be expected on holiday weekends such as this one to write tickets day and night to keep the community safe. Law enforcement writes tickets every day to save lives. This presence and visible campaign marketing messages have led to the dramatic shift in belt wearers over the last 20 years, where we currently sit at a 90.7% seat belt use rate!
