A big part of being a celebrity is having a ton of money and deciding what to spend it on. It is no surprise that many fill their garages with exotic rides. But for some, it becomes an obsession. Here are five celebrities with impressive collections.
Jay Leno
This comedian has more than jokes- he has over 180 cars and motorcycles in his entire collection. At a minimum, these cars are worth $50 million, but they could be as much as double that price. These cars don’t just sit in his garage. He got caught with a 2010 speeding ticket going 75 MPH in his steam-powered 1912 Stanley Steamer Vanderbilt Cup Racer.
Jerry Seinfeld
This fellow funnyman also loves his cars. He even spent $1.4 million on a private garage just for his cars. The space includes an 850 square foot living space, elevator, and a club room equipped with a pool table. He employs a “fleet management” team to look after his cars and keep them in good condition. To get a glimpse of his collection, check out the Netflix show, “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.”
Gabriel Iglesias
Before he was known as Fluffy, Gabriel bought his first car at 17- a 1968 Volkswagen Transporter. After he came into fame for making others laugh, he grew his love for Volkswagen with a $3 million collection of rare, rebuilt, and reclaimed Volkswagen Buses and Beetles. That was not enough for him. He also built his own Volkswagen museum, named the Fluffy Museum, designed as a replica of the Volkswagen factory in Germany to house his cars.
Ralph Lauren
If Ralph Lauren collects cars, it should be no surprise that Forbes dubbed his collection “art you can drive.” He started with a 1971 Mercedes 280SE 4.5 Convertible, which was made the same year he opened his first Polo boutique on Rodeo Drive. Over 50 years later, he has grown his collection to be among the most valuable in the world at $350 million. In 2011, the Louvre exhibited 17 of his vehicles. One of the most impressive was the 1925 Bentley 4.5-Liter “Blower” which competed in 1930, 1932, and 1933 24 Hours of Le Mans, the oldest car race in the world.
Sultan of Brunei
Although Lauren may have the priciest collection, Hassanal Bolkiah has the largest. At 7000 cars, his collection is worth $20 billion and includes Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Rolls-Royces, and Bugattis. He gifted his 18-year-old nephew $1 billion in the form of six custom-made, semi-automatic Ferraris, even when the 1994 technology didn’t exist. Unfortunately, all of his cars are not in pristine condition. According to one Ferrari broker, someone turned off the AC in one of his garages, and all 600 Rolls-Royces “cooked to goo” in the sun.
