Here are some helpful tips from Business Insider about how to keep your car in good shape if you are using it less:
A lot of people are letting their oil change get prolonged because they are not using their cars as often. This can actually do more harm than good. For example, skipping an oil change now can deteriorate the quality of the oil with summer’s temperature fluctuations and cause damage in the future.
Taking your car out for a spin every week will keep your system running smoothly. A weekly drive lubricates your moving parts and also charges your battery.
Once you have finished your ride, pay attention to where you are parking. Make sure there is enough protection from the sun to protect your paint. Use a car cover to protect your paint from the harmful sun rays. If you do not have a car cover, it is not a bad idea to get a car wax and seal to protect your paint.
Avoid parking on top of soft surfaces like grass or dirt. These surfaces are permeable and can allow moisture to travel into your car’s undercarriage, which can, in turn, cause rust. A pavement surface is ideal, but gravel is also a preferred surface. Look above your car too. A tree that is a bird’s favorite or has much sap can be detrimental to your car’s paint.
That same tree could also come crashing down on your car if a big summer storm comes through. If you find yourself in this situation, come see how we can help! Make an appointment with us to keep your ride.
